Nick Diaz vs. B.J. Penn
BJ Penn is the more skilled fighter here but there’s a problem…”here” equals the welterweight division where he has gone 1-3-1 dating back to UFC 58. He gasses by the middle of the second round every time he fights at 170 and this will be no different. Diaz cardio and volume striking takes over from that point forward and Penn drops a 29-28 decision.
Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic vs. Roy Nelson
It’s hard not to root for Cro Cop to go out with a win after the glory that was synonymous with his name in Pride but this is about making money, not emotion. Cro Cop just doesn’t have it anymore and Nelson has the right hand and grappling skills to show everyone that on Saturday night.
Jeff Curran vs. Scott Jorgensen
Jorgensen all night in this one. Curran is a great submission artist but Jorgensen has the wrestling and power to either keep it standing and batter Curran or ground and pound him through the mat if it hits the floor.
Donald Cerrone vs. Dennis Siver
This is the pick of the night. Cerrone should be a four to five to one favorite and is a bargain in some places just over 200. Cerrone is too long, too fast, too good on the ground and too cardiovascularly superior to lose this one. Cerrone easy. |

Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard
Maynard is the more powerful striker, the better wrestler and has the mental edge after dominating Edgar in the first fight and dominating the first round of the second fight before he adrenaline dumped and allowed Edgar to fight to a draw in the second fight. Maynard goes back to basics, doesn’t gas and wins the belt.
Jose Aldo vs. Kenny Florian
Poor Kenny...Aldo is simply the best striker in the world at Featherweight and his speed is just too much for Kenny. Aldo has a lot to prove after people thought he looked human against Hominick and Kenny is the unfortunate next opponent. Aldo keeps the belt.
Chael Sonnen vs. Brian Stann
Sonnen returns after 14 months of drama out of the cage and gets a very tough Stann on a roll. Unfortunately for Stann, Chael has a great chin and unstoppable takedowns. Stann’s wrestling is a weak point and Sonnen will exploit it en route to his much anticipate rematch with Anderson Silva.
Anthony Pettis vs. Jeremy Stephens
This is a mismatch! Pettis is way more talented everywhere...superior overall striker and a world apart on the ground. Stephens has one punch power but couldn’t put Anthony’s training partner, Danny Downes, away and won’t catch Pettis either. Showtime in a route.

Matt Wiman vs. Mac Danzig
Their first fight was stopped prematurely giving Wiman a submission win on his record that was highly controversial. Now, 16 months later, the names are the same and so is the result. Wiman wins this with his emerging hyper-aggressive style, up a few notches after his recent loss to Dennis Siver in a close fight he thought he had in the bag.
Anthony Johnson vs. Charlie Brennerman
Johnson has crazy power and showed improved wrestling when he dominated Dan Hardy. He won’t be taking the “Spaniard” down at will, but Brennerman won’t have an easy time getting Johnson to the mat either. On the feet, the Spaniard is in a world of trouble.
Josh Neer vs. Keith Wisniewski
Neer is the easy money here. Super experienced and he returns to the UFC after going 6-1 since being cut. The loss? Eddie Alvarez. Stick with Neer on this one. |
 |
Jon Jones vs. Rampage Jackson
Jones is too long, too fast and too skilled for an overmatched Rampage. The only way for Rampage to win the fight is with a knockout and his power from Pride hasn’t been in force since he KO’d Wanderlei. I know the cost is high, but this one is a lock. Lay the money...no way for Rampage to win this fight.
Josh Koscheck vs. Matt Hughes
Another huge favorite for a reason. Kos is the younger, faster, stronger version of an again Hughes. This may not get out of the first round. Kos easily.
Nate Diaz vs. Takanori Gomi
Gomi has looked terrible in the UFC with a 1-2 record and Diaz returns to 155, the weight class he best belongs in. His length should keep Gomi’s power at bay and his submission game makes this one a wrap if it hits the floor. Best value on the main card.
Tim Boetsch vs. Nick Ring
Boetsch is the wrong size for the Promise Ring. Very powerful at 185, Boetsch’s size and strength will make the difference in this one as he hands Ring his first loss. |

Jake Ellenberger vs. Jake Shields
Take the dog money on Ellenberger to the bank...run don’t walk. Ellenberger is big and strong with enough wrestling skill to keep this on the feet where it is a complete and utter mismatch. Shields feels Ellenberger’s power and tastes his second defeat in a row.
Allen Belcher vs. Jason MacDonald
Belcher returns after a long layoff and eye surgery and gets a win via superior striking against a great submission artist. Let’s not forget that Belcher was set to take a step up to elite competition right when he had the eye problems. |

Official MMA Picks: UFC 134 |
Anderson Silva vs. Yushin Okami
Silva is too fast and has a ridiculous striking advantage over Okami. Even at -500, a motivated Silva fighting in his home country of Brazil is a play to avenge his only loss (a controversial DQ) in his last 15 fights.
Shogun Rua vs. Forrest Griffin
Rua is back with Rafael Cordero, seemingly healthy with a lot to prove after getting demolished by Jon Jones in March. Griffin has regressed since the two fought in 2007. Laying only 200 to get 100 is a bargain here.
Rousimar Palhares vs. Dan Miller
Miller has great BJJ and still isn’t in the same submission stratosphere as Palhares who is also the more powerful striker. Miller is tough as nails and the more technical striker but expect Palhares to get this to the ground and do what he does best.
